Deemed by the Chicago Tribune as playing with a “panache, sensitivity and sizzling virtuosity,” violinist Renaud Capuçon joins the SLSO performing Schumann’s impressive, yet somber Violin Concerto.
Schumann’s Violin Concerto was last performed 49 years ago by the SLSO.
Beethoven’s heroic Leonore Overture No. 3 was written for an earlier version of his opera Fidelio, which tells the tale of the adventurous rescue of an unjustly imprisoned husband.
Did you know: Schumann’s Violin Concerto was forbidden to be performed until 100 years after his death, but the proviso was broken, 19 years before the expiration of the condition.
